Due to the problems created by 30 million refugees, plus the sanctions for testing nuclear devices, Pakistan faced a serious economic crisis. It was under this economic situation that Pakistan sold the nuclear technology to North Korea and Libya.
Later when the world learned about these deals, Pakistan had already regained it’s outstanding strategic value, due to war on terror. It was impossible to fight this war, specially the war in Afghanistan without the support from Pakistan. So, all the sins committed by Pakistan were forgiven and Pakistan again became an ally in war against terror. When stories about Pakistan selling nuclear technology to U.S. enemies, North Korea and Libya were published, Pakistan had already become a favorite in war against terror and it was an absolute need in this regard. So, United States and other western countries wanted to save Pakistan’s and the Government of Pakistan’s reputation, as much as they can. They chose Abdul Qadir Khan, an outstanding scientist and Physicist, and still a huge hero in Pakistan, as the scapegoat and all the blame was transferred to him. Story was made that poor Pakistani government had absolutely no clue about, what he was doing while he sold this extremely expensive technology to two countries. How ridiculous and stupid? But, the corporate media and sold out politicians did propaganda with so much force and intensity that most people in western world believed this story. It is worth to mention here that big corporations particularly the oil companies have major stakes in attack on Iraq. Despite all the continuous and intensive propaganda against A. Q. Khan, isn’t it ironic that the ultimate proof against him, financial transactions related to these deals, were never made public, and the corporate media and sold out politicians never asked for it or never tried to make them public. I guess you know why? Because these transactions prove, without any doubt, that A. Q. Khan was not the recipient of these transactions. Finally, Pakistan was once again aligned with United States and other western countries in the war against terror. This was sin committed by Pakistan that terrorist and extremists can never forgive. Acts of terrorism became a routine in Pakistan. Various international agencies and organizations have reported that Pakistan remains the country, most effected by terrorism.

In Pakistan, GDP growth fell from 4.1 percent in 2008 to 2.0 percent in 2009 while inflation rose sharply from 12 percent in 2008 to 20.8 percent in 2009 mainly because of food price increases, it said.
Pakistan witnessed a contraction in both of its exports and imports in 2009 while global economic crisis led to a decline in exports by 6 percent, imports contracted at a much faster rate by 11 percent due to lower domestic demand coupled with massive fall in international oil prices, the report said.
Fiscal deficit has been rising in recent years, standing at 7.6percent of GDP in 2008 and in Nov. 2008, the government of Pakistan signed a $7.6 billion, 23-month Stand-By Arrangement with the International Monetary Found (IMF) to support the country’s stabilization programme and help the country remedy balance of payments difficulties, the report added.
“Fiscal performance improved substantially in 2009 due to more stringent fiscal policy. The budget deficit came down to 5.2 percent of GDP.”
While performance on the revenue side was not very encouraging, the fiscal improvement in 2009 was largely based on reduction in oil subsidies and development spending which is likely to impinge on the medium-term growth rate, the report said.”
At the same time Pakistan armed forces are fighting a civil war against various extremist groups since 2003. Wikipedia article on “War in North West Pakistan” reports, ”
2,637 security forces members and 12,847 militants were killed between January 2003, and November 12, 2009, according to government sources.[136]
On February 18, 2010, the Pakistani military confirmed that since September 11, 2001, 2,351 soldiers have been killed in the war and another 6,512 have been wounded. Also, there have been 21,672 civilian casualties[9] (at least 7,598 of these were killed[20]). The military stated that 17,742 militants have been killed or captured.[9] Among these, by November 2007, were 488 foreign extremists killed, 24 others arrested and 324 injured.[137] An additional 220 policemen were killed in fighting in 2007 and 2008.[138] Before all-out fighting broke out in 2003, independent news sources reported only four incidents of deaths of Pakistani security forces members in 2001 and 2002, in which a total of 20 soldiers and policemen were killed.[139][140][141][142] The independent South Asia Terrorism Portal website has estimated that at least 1,865 soldiers and policemen were killed between 2003 and 2008.[143] The Pak Institute For Peace Studies has estimated that 1,185 soldiers and policemen were killed in 2009.[144]
Also, at least 857 soldiers and policemen have been reported captured by the militants since the start of the war, with at least 558 of them being released.[145][147][148][150][151][152][153][154][155][156][157][158][159][160]
Mr. Naushad Ali Khan Superintendent of Research and Analysis, NWFP Police in his article, Suicide and terrorist attacks and police actions in NWFP, Pakistan has provided details of different activities of the terrorists during 2008. Accordingly 483 cases were registered with 533 deaths and 1290 injured. Similarly 29 suicidal cases were registered that resulted in the death of 247 persons while 695 persons sustained injuries. Beside all this, Pakistan lost, in this war on terror, two times elected, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, a serious loss for Pakistan and the global community.
