Hunger control : medicalschool

WeTechies – Homepage

A friend of mine posted about it on /r/medicine[1] but didn’t get a response, so I’m reposting here.

The control of feeding in the hypothalamus is managed by the concentration of a variety of substances. For instance, Guyton emphasizes the effect of insulin, leptin and glucose in the POMC neurons.

We got kind of confused after studying diabetes since one of the symptoms of hyperglycemia is hunger. Is it because the absence of insulin overcompensates for the excess of glucose? Do you guys have a better explanation?
