We attacked Iraq twice. First time to protect our allies, mainly Kuwait. Which is justifiable. I give credit to president Bush senior for not going too far and withdrawing at the point where we should have. He is a former CIA executive and showed extremely good far sight regarding an exit strategy from Iraq.
Please, refer to whitehouse.gov, article “George H. W. Bush“. It states:
“George Bush brought to the White House a dedication to traditional American values and a determination to direct them toward making the United States “a kinder and gentler nation.””
“Bush next turned his energies toward completing his education and raising a family.”
“At Yale University he excelled both in sports and in his studies; he was captain of the baseball team and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.”
“Like his father, Prescott Bush, who was elected a Senator from Connecticut in 1952, George became interested in public service and politics.”
“In 1980 Bush campaigned for the Republican nomination for President.”
“Bush faced a dramatically changing world, as the Cold War ended after 40 bitter years, the Communist empire broke up, and the Berlin Wall fell.”
“In other areas of foreign policy, President Bush sent American troops into Panama to overthrow the corrupt regime of General Manuel Noriega, who was threatening the security of the canal and the Americans living there.”
“Bush’s greatest test came when Iraqi President Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, then threatened to move into Saudi Arabia.”
“Despite unprecedented popularity from this military and diplomatic triumph, Bush was unable to withstand discontent at home from a faltering economy, rising violence in inner cities, and continued high deficit spending.”
Please, refer to Wikipedia article “George H. W. Bush“. It states:
“George Herbert Walker Bush (born June 12, 1924) is an American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States (1989–93).”
“Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts, to Senator Prescott Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush.”
” Following the attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941, at the age of 18, Bush postponed going to college and became the youngest aviator in the US Navy at the time.[1]
“He became involved in politics soon after founding his own oil company, serving as a member of the House of Representatives, among other positions.”
“In 1988, Bush launched a successful campaign to succeed Reagan as president, defeating Democratic opponent Michael Dukakis.”
“Bush is the father of George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, and Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida.”
“George Herbert Walker Bush was born at 173 Adams Street in Milton, Massachusetts on June 12, 1924 to Prescott Sheldon Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush.”
“Bush began his formal education at the Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich.[3]
“Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Bush decided to join the US Navy,[2] so after graduating from Phillips Academy earlier in 1942,[4] he became a naval aviator at the age of 18.[3]
“He was assigned to Torpedo Squadron (VT-51) as the photographic officer in September 1943.[1]
“After Bush’s promotion to Lieutenant (junior grade) on August 1, the San Jacinto commenced operations against the Japanese in the Bonin Islands.”
“Bush subsequently returned to San Jacinto in November 1944 and participated in operations in the Philippines[1] until his squadron was replaced and sent home to the United States.”
“Because of his valuable combat experience, Bush was reassigned to Norfolk Navy Base and put in a training wing for new torpedo pilots.”
“George Bush married Barbara Pierce on January 6, 1945, only weeks after his return from the Pacific.”
“Bush had been accepted to Yale University prior to his enlistment in the military,[9] and took up the offer after his discharge and marriage.”
“After graduating from Yale, Bush moved his family to West Texas.”
“Bush served as Chairman of the Republican Party for Harris County, Texas in 1964, but wanted to be more involved in policy making, so he set his stakes high: he aimed for a US Senate seat from Texas.[12]
“Bush was elected in 1966 to a House of Representatives seat from the 7th District of Texas, defeating Democrat Frank Briscoe with 57% of the vote;[15]
“In 1970, Nixon convinced Bush to relinquish his House seat to again run for the Senate against Ralph Yarborough, a fierce Nixon critic.”

“In 1976, Ford brought Bush back to Washington to become Director of Central Intelligence.”
“After a Democratic administration took power in 1977, Bush became chairman on the Executive Committee of the First International Bank in Houston.[26]
“Bush had decided in the late 1970s that he was going to run for president in 1980;[22] in 1979, he attended 850 political events and traveled more than 250,000 miles (400,000 km) to campaign for the nation’s highest office.[22]
“In the primary election, Bush focused almost entirely on the Iowa caucuses, while Reagan ran a more traditional campaign.[22]
“Early in his term, Bush faced the problem of what to do with leftover deficits spawned by the Reagan years.”
“In the wake of a struggle with Congress, Bush was forced by the Democratic majority to raise tax revenues; as a result, many Republicans felt betrayed because Bush had promised “no new taxes” in his 1988 campaign.”
“Coming at around the same time as the budget deal, America entered into a mild recession, lasting for six months.”
“By his second year in office, Bush was told by his economic advisors to stop dealing with the economy, as they believed that he had done everything necessary to ensure his reelection.”

  3. Ed Albrecht’s CG debut was a 5-inning job. It came in the 2nd game of a doubleheader on the last day of the 1949 season, between the Browns (who finished 44 games out) and the White Sox (34 GB). Albrecht allowed 3 runs but only 1 hit, a 2-run triple by Jim Baumer that followed a pair of walks. (That hit by the 18-year-old Baumer — called up from class B despite hitting .218 in his first pro season — gave him 4 hits in 10 trips for the year. He would not play in the majors again for 12 seasons, when he made a brief appearance with the ’61 Reds.)

  18. I was honored to meet Fess Parker in Sikeston Missouri while passing through the town on my way to Texas in the early 70s. He happened to be staying in the same motel as my family and I. He was leaving his room to star in a rodeo with top billing that evening when ran into him. He was tall, kind, and had a heart of gold. I asked for an autograph and he was more than happy to give me one. During the time he was signing the paper he happened to drop his famous coonskin cap, which I am sure now that he did with all of his fans so they might hold the cap. Anyway it was a pleasant encounter and I still have his autograph. May you now rest in peace Fess. You entertained countless fans and I thank you.
