With an average shooting time of 6-8 months it’s a wonder any actor can star in more than a couple of feature films a year. Well these 10 actors certaintly believe in stricking the iron while it’s hot, and forget about vacations!
Rosemarie DeWitt at the top of our list with 6 films this year! She started the year off in “Your Sister’s Sister,” costarred in the very odd “Odd Life of Timothy Green,” got stern as a shrink with an increasingly unwelcome house guest in “Nobody Walks” and visited “A Little Bit of Heaven” with Kate Hudson and Gael García Bernal. She showed up in “The Watch” as Ben Stiller’s wife Abby, and you can catch her in the new Gus Van Sant drama “Promised Land” with Matt Damon and Frances McDormand.
Bryan Cranston rose to mainstream fame in the recurring role of dentist Tim Whatley in the sitcomSeinfeld, and is best known for his roles as Hal in the Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, as well as Breaking Bad. Cranston usually has smaller roles, but he’s still everywhere. He had several smaller roles in films like “Rock of Ages,” “Red Tails” and “Argo,” and he did the voice of Vitaly the rocking Russian tiger in “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.” He was also cas in “Total Recall” and “John Carter”.
Mark Duplass is always busy, but this year has been more high profile. “The League” star starred with Aubrey Plaza in the strange sci-fi romance “Safety Not Guaranteed” and the Sundance drama “Your Sister’s Sister.” He also starred in “Darling Companion” which unfortunatly didn’t get much press attention. “People Like Us” didn’t get much play, as well, but it had an interesting cast that included Elizabeth Banks, Michelle Pfeiffer and Chris Pine. Duplass seems like one of the few on this list who didn’t show up in “Argo,” but perhaps he did them all one better by taking on “Zero Dark Thirty,” the thrilling drama directed by Kathryn Bigelow. His guest stint on “The Mindy Project” as a touchy-feeling midwife was the cherry on top of a great year.
I always love seeing Richard Jenkins in movies, so it’s been especially enjoyable to see him work so much. Even though he usually plays the straight man, he’s always very talented in so many different types of films. He popped up in the arthouse fare “Darling Companion” and “Liberal Arts, ” the uber-violent drama “Killing Them Softly” with Brad Pitt and the weird horror fave “Cabin in the Woods.” He also appeared in the Tom Cruise action film “Jack Reacher,” which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Chris Messina starred in such roles as “The Giant Mechanical Man” and “28 Hotel Rooms”. The indie actor’s career is taking off this year joining the giant ensemble of respected actors in “Argo” is a feather for anyone’s cap, and appearances in arty romantic dramas “Ruby Sparks” and “Celeste and Jesse Forever”. Plus, he’s appeared on “Damages,” “The Newsroom” and “The Mindy Project.”
