This Week’s New Releases: Bat For Lashes, The Sword, P.O.S.

BY NICKCALAFATOOCT 22, 2012

Kicking off the pick of this week’s new releases is Natasha Khan – better known for her work as Bat for Lashes. The 25 million scrobble-strong singer-songwriter from Brighton, England releases her third album The Haunted Man this week (released in the UK two weeks back) and if the success of lead single “Laura” is anything to go by then it looks like it’ll be a very rewarding end to the year for her. The heart-wrenching song has taken Last.fm listeners by storm – being listened to by 7,305 unique listeners last week and already boasting 140,694 total scrobbles.

Bat for Lashes embarks on a UK and Europe tour at the end of October.

Next up is the new album from Texan metal band The Sword. Formed in 2003 but playing a form of metal that owes more to the stoner rock bands of the 1990′s, The Sword return with Apocryphon – the follow-up to 2010′s Warp Riders. That album has had a strong 2012, with listening figures for it staying fairly consistent throughout the year:

A lyric video for “Apocryphon” was released in late September and will surely be getting heads banging long into the winter months ahead with what looks set to be another album full of groove metal anthems.

Our last pick of this week’s releases sees us take an ever so slight genre switch with the new album by P.O.S., entitled We Don’t Even Live Here. The rapper from Minnesota, who also lends his services to the hip hop collective Doomtree, has also fronted punk bands before and so often provides a fresh take on hip hop. This fresh take is evident on the following performance of the track “Bumper” – the lead single from the new album.

P.O.S. recently broke the 100,000 listener mark on Last.fm but is just shy of 3 million scrobbles, something he’ll have no problem taking care of with the release of We Don’t Even Live Here.
