Critics of Planned Parenthood maintain that since its inception in the early 1970’s, it has essentially provided abortions on demand, and helped to cultivate an ethos where this course of action is considered as a primary method of birth control. Given this and the notion that the group offers a light and impersonal approach to family planning and sexual health, it could be considered to be a contributor to the current laid back attitudes towards sexual activity.
Assuming Responsibility for Family Planning
When assessing the place of Planned Parenthood in contemporary society, it is important to consider the truth about abortion in the US. While it is true that the organization performed approximately one quarter of all the abortions that were conducted nationwide 2009, it is pertinent to remember that the current level of abortion and teenage pregnancy are far lower than they were throughout the course of the early 1990’s.
