HAMBURG, N.Y. — A Muslim advocacy group is asking Wal-Mart to rehire a New York worker who posted derogatory comments about Muslim customers on Facebook and was fired last week.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations said Friday that employee Terry Earsing has offered a sincere apology.
Earsing was the assistant manager at the Wal-Mart in Hamburg, just south of Buffalo. Along with a picture of Muslim women in traditional dress, his expletive-filled posting read: "Halloween came early this year. … Do they really have to … dress like that."
Earsing was fired after the group asked Wal-Mart to take disciplinary action against him. But a spokesman says CAIR never sought his firing.
Neither Earsing nor Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. immediately responded to a request for comment Friday.
