DARTH VADER HAS A WIFE
A story making the rounds on the internet this week is the domestic violence incident involving Darth Vader and his wife. No, not the real Darth Vader. There is no real Darth Vader. It’s just some jagoff in England who officially changed his name to Darth Vader. The surprising part of the story is that someone who is enough of a dork to legally change his name to Darth Vader not only has a wife, but also a mistress, whose boyfriend was attempting to punch Darth in the face when his punch went wild and struck his own girlfriend.
GOODBYE EMMANUELLE
The world has lost another cinema legend. Sylvia Kristel, the Dutch actress who became famous starring in the Emmanuelleseries of soft-core erotic films, died this week at age 60. She was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2001, but survived three rounds of chemotherapy and surgery before dying in her sleep October 17.
The Emmanuelle films were based on a character created by French novelist Emmanuelle Arsan (the pen name for Marayat Rollet-Andiron) for her novel Emmanuelle, which was published in 1959.
BINDERS FULL OF WOMEN
A peculiar phrase uttered by Mitt Romney during the second Presidential debate this week went viral minutes after it was spoken. Speaking of his attempts to hire more women to cabinet posts while governor of Massachusetts, Romney mentioned being given "binders full of women" to consider. Almost immediately images like these began popping up on Twitter and Facebook:
ROMNEY THE COMEDIAN
Some good viral activity for Mitt Romney came this week in the form of his widely praised and surprisingly funny speech at the annual Al Smith dinner.
Sample line: "People seem to be very curious as to how we prepare for the debates. First, refrain from alcohol for 65 years before the debate," the tea-totaling Romney quipped. "Second, find the biggest available straw man and mercilessly attack it."
THE MAN WHO JUMPED TO EARTH
The coolest viral video of the week award of course must go to Felix Baumgartner, the daredevil and BASE jumper who performed the amazing skydiving feat of jumping from a height of 24 miles and reaching a speed of Mach 1.24 before gently touching down on Earth.
Our favorite response to this amazing skydive came from comedian Ricky Gervais who used the occasion to compose another of his highly controversial anti-religion tweets. This one refered to both Baumgartner’s jump and the recent shooting of a young Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban. "Dear Religion," the tweet began. "This week I safely dropped a man from space while you shot a child in the head for wanting to go to school. Yours, Science."
