Sir Isaac Newton, 1642-1727, was a true genius. (Britannica). He was a highly eccentric Physicist and mathematician. He discovered the composition of white light. His three laws of Motion became the foundation for the Industrial Revolution, resulting in unmatched prosperity and growth in human history up to that time. Laws of Motion also resulted in the formulation of the Universal Law of Gravitation. He also discovered the Infinitesmal Calculus. “Newton’s Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, 1687) was one of the most important single works in the history of modern science.” Britannica. Along with Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Descartes, Newton was a key figure in building a mechanistic view of the Universe.
The strong sentiment against organized religions was rapidly ripening. The work of these four major players, later joined by Charles Darwin, provided a formidable answer to religious theories like creation. Although outstandingly revolutionary, these theories scratched the surface of the mysteries of the universe. The deeper digging reveals much more, but Atheism has had a fantastic ride over these achievements. Newton was deeply religious and spiritual. “As it is to all people of faith, religion was central to Newton’s life.” He believed that the later emperors, monarchs, and priesthood deeply corrupted the original Christianity. Nevertheless, neither interpreted their findings as denying a Creator or the Cause and were not atheists. Newton interpreted laws of mechanics as natural, and Darwin never interpreted that a creator or the cause could not set the evolutionary process in place. However, the Renaissance revolutionaries took their works as a denial of the Cause and made it the foundation of Atheistic Sciences. Even a mechanistic universe and evolution by natural selection do not logically deny a Cause, not even by a long shot. It was mainly because of the stupidity of Christian priests that Atheists were able to establish these as the foundation of Atheistic sciences so firmly. They kept insisting on the crazy, stupid and fundamental interpretations of the bible instead of doing a logical analysis of the claims of the atheist scientists and philosophers. Deist thinkers and Philosophers like Paine, Nietzsche, Voltaire, Diderot, Kant, and Planck did a lot of work on logic, science and reason, but this is interpreted more as anti-Christianity than a defence against Atheism. Stop, take a deep breath and think. What could even be the remotest logical connection between Darwin and Newton’s work and denial of the cause? Of course, none. These theories were merely different from the traditional Christian dogma. They were wildly and wrongly interpreted as denials of the Cause, and even a much stronger Atheist dogma was built on these faulty interpretations. Darwin and Newton can be interpreted as demolishing the Christian dogma, but they, by any logical means, deny the Cause. Cause is a logical conclusion and is not dismissed by these works based on logic.
Newton and even Einstein had no clue about the cause and mechanism of gravity, although both spent a significant part of their lives figuring it out. Einstein suggested the trampoline of spacetime with pretty much pure speculation. There are logical issues with the trampoline analogy: physical objects on a spacetime trampoline. Unlike movement under gravity, trampoline objects roll and spin in the direction of movement and, depending on the mass and speed, move at an angle instead of perpendicular to the force.
On the other hand, Newton was deeply involved in what might be called the occult today. Great scientists like Galileo were fortune tellers, Newton did lots of work in magic and Alchemy, Brahe was a known sorcerer, Linnaeus classified magical animals like Hydra and believed in mermaids, and Paracelsus loved natural magic.
