I believe that this devalues the higher borders and can lead to harassment in soloqueue games.
If a silver player has a diamond border (from 3s), for example, they will be harassed all game by their teammates.
Pros:
Prevents such harassment in solo queue games
Does not devalue higher borders (Platinum, Diamond) that have been achieved from solo queue (a hard queue)
Prevents people from buying spots on high-tiered ranked 3s teams and getting rewards that they in no way deserve (Yes, there has been an influx of these since the announcement)
Adds incentive to climb in solo q and to improve game play [Credit to /u/ndabvida]
