Dedicated to the romance language scholars among my friends (who will know just what I was trying to say)- and all the rest of us who know that even practice never does quite make ‘perfect’ after all! It was going to, but then…
imparfait
I was going to say what I said-
but the words went awry in my head.
Then I was going to do what I did-
but my foot hit the slope, and I slid.
So I said what I was doing
as I did what I was saying-
while getting what was coming
or just keeping what was staying.
In a place where plans gang
aft aglay- I am perfectly rendered
in the imparfait.
