A turnê foi anunciada oficialmente no dia 3 de fevereiro de 2013, após Beyoncé se apresentar no Super Bowl XLVII. O nome da turnê é uma referência ao marido da cantora, Shawn Corey Carter, mais conhecido como Jay-Z.
