Exclusive: New Riverfront Restaurant To Open At Former Cafe Boatyard Site

Update: The formal announcement of plans for the future of Rick’s Café Boatyard is scheduled for 11:30 this morning. We’ll stream the news conference live for you here on WOWT.com.

The big, empty building sitting along Omaha’s riverfront apparently has a brighter future in store.

Many have been wondering what will happen to the building. Wednesday morning on KFAB radio, World Group’s Trenton Magid let the cat out of the bag. "My understanding is that the owner of Charlie’s on the Lake on 144th Street is in final negotiations with the city of Omaha to open up a restaurant in the former Rick’s Cafe Boatyard."

Sources tell Channel 6 News that the new restaurant on Omaha’s riverfront will be a joint venture between Charlie’s on the Lake and Storz Brewery. The beer was made in Omaha years ago and is now being brewed in Lincoln. It will make its comeback to the market in a few weeks.

Ted and Lori Henderson like to spend time along the riverfront and they’re excited about Charlie’s on the Lake moving to the river. "I think Charlie’s on the Lake has a good variety on the menu,” said Lori. “It seemed pretty family-oriented when we were there."

"Anything is better than having it sit here open like this,” said Ted. “You can almost see it rundown just sitting there, buildings rundown faster when nobody’s in them.”

Sources say the new restaurant could be open by November.
