The UA is ranked the 119th best university in the nation in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges 2014 edition. Among public universities, the UA is ranked No. 58 nationally.

Recognized for its outstanding commitment to undergraduate research and student success, the University of Arizona climbed a spot in this year’s U.S. News & World Report rankings of the nation’s best colleges. The UA’s undergraduate business program also received high marks, climbing two spots from last year.
The UA is ranked the 119th best university in the nation in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges 2014 edition, released today. Among public universities, the UA is ranked No. 58 nationally.
The University was again recognized as a leader in undergraduate research for offering programs that engage students in intensive, self-directed research or creative work under faculty mentorship. In the "Programs to Look For" section, education experts identify undergraduate research as an area critical to student success.
The UA also was named among the top "A-Plus Schools for B Students." The list recognizes schools that promote student success by seeking "a broad, engaged student body" and by giving meaningful consideration to "spirit and hard work" in addition to GPA when making admissions decisions.
"Our goal at the UA is to have 100 percent student engagement – that means supplementing students’ traditional classroom experience with hands-on activities that allow them to experience the real world in real time," said UA President Ann Weaver Hart. "We are thrilled to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for our commitment to undergraduate research and other projects that engage students in this very meaningful way."
The UA’s Eller College of Management moved up in the rankings from No. 24 to No. 22 among the nation’s top accredited undergraduate business programs. Eller’s management information systems program was ranked No. 4 in the country.
The UA’s College of Engineering undergraduate program was ranked No. 53 nationally among programs at doctoral degree granting universities. Founded when the UA opened its doors in 1885, the College of Engineering now has eight departments and offers 13 undergraduate degrees.
U.S. News & World Report ranks colleges and universities based on a number of variables. Schools are categorized by mission, evaluated on up to 16 indicators of academic excellence and are then ranked against their peers.
The quality measures considered for national universities include graduation and retention rates, assessment by peers and counselors, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance – or the difference between actual and predicted graduation rates.
