Disclaimer: For those who think that I’m paid to do this, go post /r/HailCorporate in the comments. Just kidding; I’m not paid for this. I’m just sick of seeing people who cannot manage their own collections while I can do so in a matter of minutes with less than 1% error, especially when they have over 2300+ wallpapers.
For me, there are steps in collection management. This are namely obtaining, duplicate deletion, categorization, and others you may think of but I will be focusing on those three. Usually, it is the duplicate deletion that many have a hard time on doing so.
In obtaining, this is rather pretty easy. You have various sources of wallpapers and so do I. I collect wallpapers weekly and I obtain them using different tools. My sources include Reddit, 4Chan, and deviantArt. Of course, you can have other sources too but that simply depends on the collector. In Reddit, there are a number of wallpaper subreddits and this multi of mine has some of them. Of course, you can also go to 4Chan’s /wg/ and/or /w/ for more wallpapers. You can also add dA users to your watchlist so you can get updated to the newest of their deviations. But one might say, "I don’t want to keep on opening dA just to get the latest of their wallpapers."
INTRODUCING THE FIRST TOOL: RSS FEED READER for Chrome. You use this to get the latest updates of blogs, articles, etc. I use this to get the newest deviations of users from dA and many other purposes*. In using it, just go to the deviations page of the user then press the RSS button if it has a + sign then click the + button on the top bar then add the feed. Pretty simple that you need not to read on what I just typed to learn about that extension as it is very user-friendly.
Okay, now what? I still have to download them so that I could have my wallpapers. Simple. Simply right click on the image and save it. Now it’s in your computer. Okay, but I want to download a whole album consisting 200+ wallpapers and I want ’em all.
INTRODUCING THE SECOND TOOL: RARCHIVES’ ALBUM RIPPER. Again, another user-friendly tool. No need to delve into the details. It’s compatible with 4Chan, Imgur, Minus, Dropbox (but not yet for Google Drive) and other domains listed there (I’m certain there’s a list). Also, there’s another tool exclusively for 4Chan.
INTRODUCING THE THIRD TOOL: XCHAN THREAD AND IMAGE DOWNLOADER (Special thanks to my friend /u/IAMA_dragon-AMA for this). Do I still need to delve into the details?
So that you have downloaded your wallpapers from various sources, now what? You might be done but for some, they’re still not. They still have to deal with duplicates, shitty wallpapers, categorization, etc. Wait, did you say duplicates? Yes I did, you ignorant shithead!
INTRODUCING THE FOURTH TOOL: AWESOME DUPLICATE PHOTO FINDER for those duplicates you just want to remove but can’t because you don’t want to waste your time doing it for very large collections. It scans a collection or two or more for duplicates and ranks the pairs in percentages of how similar the two images are. It’s still up to you, though, on which you want to delete and which of those you do not want to because there may be false results (i.e. duplicates with similarity percentages of less than 100%).
However, some of those wallpapers are not according to the aspect ratio of your monitor or isn’t actually a wallpaper. And you’re tired of dividing the value of the length by width of each and every single one of your wallpapers to see if they are according to the aspect ratios that you’re looking for.
INTRODUCING THE FIFTH TOOL: DIMENSIONS2FOLDERS. No need to delve into the details. Work your way into it.
I, for some of those people, need to do something a lot more.
OPTIONAL TOOL: ADVANCED RENAMER. This tool is very flexible that I cannot tell you what it does individually. Simply put, it renames files. I use this to categorize wallpapers according to their themes and such.
Okay, you now have all the programs you need for an extravagant wallpaper collection. Onwards and brag people about your collection! I’m sure you’ll be punched in the face for being a weirdo.
This block of self post would not just simply end abruptly without a proper ending so have a part of my collection instead. If you don’t like my collection, just shut up and don’t rustle a jimmy. It’s still a wallpaper collection and it still passes the standards of this sub so shut up. Here’s the collection, by the way. It should have 134 photos. If not, it’s still uploading.
* This includes getting the latest artworks I can karmawhore into the pony subs (including /r/ClopClop, /r/TrueClop, /r/MLPMature, etc.); keeping updated to the latest tracks by Savant, Vexare, and the O2Jam composers; getting the newest job offers from clients from oDesk; and as an alternative to YouTube’s subscriptions.
