You will explore how to encourage the most suitable applicants for the role and deter unsuitable applicants from working with children and young people. You will also explore the selection stage of the recruitment process, including what to consider on receipt of application forms. You will cover scrutinising applications, shortlisting and informing applicants whether they have been successful or unsuccessful. You will look at requesting and scrutinising references and some things to look out for when checking them. You will also look at self-disclosure forms and other considerations, such as equality, discrimination and special requirements. You will then move onto the preparations that must be done before carrying out interviews, what should happen in an interview including examples of techniques and questions to ask. You will also consider when separate safeguarding interviews may be required and some actions to take if there are any causes for concern. You will then move onto looking at making a conditional offer of employment to the successful candidate and the checks required before an appointment is made, including DBS checks. You will also look at what is required when recruiting agency workers and overseas workers. You will learn about the importance of maintaining a single central record of pre-appointment checks. Finally, you will explore the purpose of inducting new staff and what to include when planning and developing a programme. You will also look at the statutory requirements regarding policies, procedures and training. You will also look at what is involved in maintaining a safe culture within an educational setting and the importance of supervision and monitoring.
