You will consider the different types of abrasive wheel machines and explore the different types of wheels that should be considered for the task at hand. You will learn about the legislation that is relevant and you will look at the duty holders responsibilities. In this course you will be introduced to the meaning of risk assessment and look at what the law requires, as well as looking at the maintenance of the machines used and will consider the inspection and testing requirements for abrasive wheels. In this course you will explore the safe practices that need to be considered when mounting, dressing and truing wheels, as well as looking at the appropriate storage and handling of abrasive wheels to reduce the risk of breakage. Lastly you will learn why emergency procedures are required and look at some examples of emergencies. You will also consider the need for first aid in the event of abrasive wheel injuries and the legal duties and provisions that should be considered. In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80 or more in the final multiple choice quiz. You will also learn what abrasive wheels are used for and the different types of machines that may be used. You will learn about the legislation that is relevant to abrasive wheels and the duty holders responsibilities. Unit 2 – Abrasive wheels risks – In this unit you will explore the terms hazard and risk, as well as considering the meaning of accidents and incidents (near misses). In this unit you will also explore some of the risks associated with abrasive wheels and some examples of accidents that can occur. Unit 3 – Identifying and assessing risks – In this unit you will be introduced to the meaning of risk assessment and will look at what the law requires. You will consider what constitutes a suitable and sufficient risk assessment, as well as considering why a risk assessment is important. You will also learn who is responsible for carrying out risk assessments. Unit 4 – Controlling and reducing risks – In this unit, you will be learning about controlling and reducing the risks associated with abrasive wheels and will look at some examples of safe practices. You will also consider the options in the hierarchy of control and look at some examples relating to abrasive wheels, as well as learning about some of the components of abrasive wheels and their functions. You will also explore the safe practices that need to be considered when mounting, dressing and truing an abrasive wheel. Unit 5 – Further precautions and safety equipment – In this unit you will consider some additional precautions and safety equipment that can further control and reduce the risks of abrasive wheels. You will also look at some examples of how the risks of hazardous substances, noise and vibration can be controlled, you will consider these control measures that should be prioritised. You will look at the health surveillance and learn what is it and why it is important, as well as briefly looking at the training that is required where safety equipment is used as a control. Lastly in this unit you will explore Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE). Unit 6 – Fire, electricity and emergency procedures – In our final unit you will consider the need for first aid in the event of abrasive wheel injuries, you will look at the legal duties and provisions that should be considered. You will also look at why accidents and incidents (near misses) should be reported, recorded and investigated. You will look at the requirements for reporting and recording accidents internally and externally, as well as reviewing and learning lessons after accidents and incidents. You will finish off by looking at the electrical risks associated with abrasive wheels and some examples of precautions to be taken.
