ALBION, MI – Albion College has been named by Forbes magazine as one of the nation’s best colleges for helping women succeed in STEM – science, technology, engineering and math.

Albion ranked 16th on the magazine’s list of the top 20 U.S. colleges and universities in relation to women achieving degrees in STEM subjects.

In determining its ranking, the article said Forbes took the 400 schools in its ranking of America’s Best Colleges and eliminated those where the overall number of students in STEM classes was small, and where men obtained STEM degrees at low rates.

The remaining schools were ranked based on how closely they approached an ideal where STEM classrooms represented the overall school, the article said. Schools where the student body was predominantly female also were excluded from the analysis, the article said.

The Forbes article also listed the top 20 U.S. colleges and universities in relation to minority achieving STEM subject degrees.
