A place for people who want to buy a laptop to get suggestions from people who know the intimate details of the hardware.
This is a sticky post, which serves to lay out some of the conventions we’ve developed here, and what you can do to make it easy for other people to give you advice. It expands on portions of the sidebar, but does not duplicate the bulk of it (primarily the Quick Picks).

Asking for Help
You are the entire point of this community; without you, we would not exist. There are a few things it would help for you to do, though …
Before posting to ask for help, there are three things you should do:
think about what your needs are,
look at the quick picks in the sidebar to see if there’s anything you like,
and check to see if someone else has asked a similar question lately.
You will have better odds of being given advice if your question is a bit unique, or at least hasn’t been asked a dozen times in the last day.
There are three things without which it is basically impossible to give any advice: your budget, which country you’re buying in, and what you plan to use your future laptop for. It’s helpful for you to include the first two and a bit of the third in the title of your post, along with any unusual needs you may have.
If you want to be especially awesome, fill out this form and paste it into the body of your post.
It’s much more useful to know what you plan to use a laptop for than it is to know what specs you think you need. Similarly, don’t ask for the "best laptop", ask for the best laptop for you and be sure to explain exactly what that means.
Giving Advice
You are the lifeblood of this community; without knowledgeable users giving advice, we would wither and die. Thank you.
There are two things I encourage doing when suggesting a laptop:
Provide a link to the product page.
Make a case for why this particular laptop is a good choice, rather than just posting the name of the laptop.
Guidelines
We don’t have any concrete rules, but there are a few guidelines which should be followed:
Be civil.
Tag affiliate links (if you plan to use them frequently, message a moderator and we’ll give you the appropriate flair).
Avoid using URL shorteners (the spam filter doesn’t like them).
Avoid behavior that looks like spamming or trolling.
This is not a place for special deals on laptops or a place to sell your old laptop.
Please report comments or posts that seem out of line.
Comments or posts violating these guidelines may be removed, and repeat offenders may be banned.
