You will look at what hazards and risks are. You will consider the difference between hazards, near misses and accidents. You will consider why the removal of hazards is vital in accident prevention. You will look at the legal, moral and financial reasons for why risk assessments should be in place. Finally, you will look at preventing and controlling risks and consider the importance of risk management. Unit 2 – The law with regard to risk assessment – In this unit, you will be introduced to the laws regarding risk assessment. You will look at the legal requirements surrounding health and safety. You will learn about the penalties for not complying with health and safety legislation. You will explore the two main pieces of health and safety legislation: the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. You will focus on employer and employee duties under this legislation. Unit 3 – Effective risk assessments – In this unit, you will consider the importance of ensuring that risk assessments are effective in reducing the risks.
