How Does Infrared Heat Work? Infrared waves operate on a completely different physical principle compared to traditional convection heaters. Convection heaters work by filling up with hot water, and making the air around it hot. This creates a stream of air known as a convection current ” which essentially circulates hot and cold air around a room.
