Our Story: Whore Choopo Ganne

There’s a saying in Punjabi, “Whore Choopo Ganne“. It means, “Chew more Sugarcane”. There is a popular background story regarding this saying. It can be summarized like this:

There was a group of rich guys. It bought a huge piece of land. After that purchase, they gathered to decide, what to do with that land. A long and heated discussion lead to the decision, to grow Sugarcane on that newly acquired land. As soon as that decision was finalized, some members of the group raised the concern that their land is surrounded by a number of small villages, occupied by poor people. They were concerned that these poor people would steal from their land and something must be done to prevent that. So, a new discussion ensued, regarding what should be done to prevent that. Another decision was reached, soon. As a result of that decision, a large bunch of people was hired, trained and armed with sticks, batons, belts, hunters and whips. This new squad of mercenaries was then ordered to attack these villages and beat up the villagers. So, they did. The villagers were caught up with a huge surprise, in everyone of those attacks. While they were being beaten by these totally unexpected and unknown attackers, the poor people were asking questions like, “What we have done”, “why you people are beating us, so brutally”. The attackers themselves, not very much educated, and convinced by the reason for attack, would answer with one reply, “Whore Choopo Ganne”, or, “Chew more Sugarcane“.

We have the same story. After second world war, we made the conclusion that world is filled up with a whole bunch of thieves, and we are going to protect it from them. We designed a new policy, commonly known as, “policing the world”. Since then it has grown, really, out of proportion and has resulted into some of the most unpleasant consequences. For example:
1. Our national debt is now surpassing a total of 16 trillion dollars.

2. There are about 190 countries in the world and we have military bases in about 130 of those.

3. As reported by endoftheamericandream.com, “U.S. military spending is greater than the military spending of China, Russia, Japan, India, and the rest of NATO combined.”

4. “United States already accounts for 46.5% of all military spending on the planet. China is next with only 6.6%.”
5. “If Bill Gates gave every penny of his fortune to the U.S. government, it would only cover the U.S. budget deficit for 15 days.”
6. “When you throw in all “off budget” items and other categories of “defense spending” not covered in the Pentagon budget you get a grand total of somewhere between $1.01 and $1.35 trillion spent on national defense in 2010.”
7. “The U.S. government borrows an average of about 168 million more dollars every single hour.”
8. “The Pentagon currently gobbles up 56 percent of all discretionary spending by the federal government.”
9. “Between 2007 and 2010, U.S. GDP grew by only 4.26%, but the U.S. national debt soared by 61% during that same time period.”
10. “The cost for the first week of air strikes on Libya was 600 million dollars. Keep in mind that the leader of the opposition in Libya has admitted that his forces contain large numbers of the same “al-Qaeda fighters” that were shooting at American troops in Iraq. So we are going broke and we are helping al-Qaeda take power in Libya at the same time.”
11. “The total price tag for each F-22 fighter jet is approximately $350 million.”
12. “Over the past decade, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost U.S. taxpayers well over a trillion dollars.”
13. “If you went out today and started spending one dollar every single second, it would take you over 31,000 years to spend one trillion dollars.”
14. “Since 2001, the total cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan breaks down to well over $3,600 for every man, woman and child in the United States.”
15. “Just one day of the war in Afghanistan costs more money than it took to build the entire Pentagon.”
16. “The United States government is now responsible for more than a third of all the government debt in the entire world.”
The worst of all is that when people in these 130 countries ask us, why we are in their countries, all we tell them is “Whore Choopo Ganne”. I mean, just think about it. All the reason for which we are attacking many of these countries is, because we believe that some day people from those countries will attack us. My goodness! What a stupidity? What is even more outrageous is that many Americans do not realize the gravity of this situation and passionately support these ridiculous policies. We are literally making ourselves, bankrupt, based on our assumptions that this may happen to us, some day. Can you believe that?
But this is a reality. Our government is doing that, right now, and we are voting for these idiots, every election. The idiots, who are outrageously borrowing money, to crop more enemies, every day, every hour, every minute, every second. The result? Our debt is rapidly reaching the level which is absolutely unsustainable. Think that cannot happen to us? Think again! European countries in crisis thought the same. But, they had to face the ultimate realities of economics and finance. They now know that the realities are far bigger and stronger then their fantasies and dream world. The fact is that the burden of debt, and interest on it, puts a huge pressure on your accounts payable. With growing debt, a very large proportion of our wealth is diverted from necessities to debt servicing and with an already strained economy, we have less and less money available for our every day, national needs. Plus, all the inflation and money devaluation caused by deficit financing to finance the 1.1 trillion dollars annual budget deficit, pulls down the value of money in your hands, money you earned, money you saved or saving and money you are investing or have invested. So, you are increasingly finding yourself, in a trap, where, even if your income is increasing, it can never outpace the inflation and devaluation. So, it is getting harder and harder to maintain or improve the lifestyle and living.
