Students at four elementary schools in North Forest, a suburb of Houston, are likely to learn more about science, technology, engineering and math since Rice University’s STEMscopes has been tapped by the Houston Independent School District (HISD) as a partner there. STEMscopes is an online science curriculum for K-12 students.

Each school will receive extensive training in STEMscopes, which teachers use to supplement textbooks and raise student scores. STEMscopes, a part of Rice’s Center for Digital Learning and Scholarship, has been declared in 100 percent alignment with the Texas Education Agency’s Proclamation 2014, a set of requirements for instructional materials.

The North Forest Independent School District was annexed by HISD in April on the orders of state education officials based on the district’s academic performance.

STEMscopes has also been named one of the “Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products for 2013″ by District Administration magazine. The program was chosen from more than 1,800 nominations by K-12 leaders.
