There is hardly anyone in United States who disagrees with the fact that public schools’ performance has been on sharp decline for a while. So, a hot debate is going on in whole country. Different people and critics have different opinions, as usual. Different factors are being held responsible and different solutions are being proposed. If you analyze the whole issue with a bird’s eye, the whole problem can be summarized in two words; competition and choice. Most parents have no choice. They are locked up in their zip codes. This is the school for your kids and this is where they must go. This lake of choice results into no competition.

In a capitalist and Democratic society like ours where the two biggest hallmarks are competition and choice, how do we end up with a system which is totally devoid of these qualities? The basic notion started from the slogan, “education is a right, not privilege”. Sounds familiar? Yes, the same crepe lead us to Obamacare, too. So, if you agree the notion that it is a right, not privilege than somehow you must also agree that it cannot be left on free markets. “Government must provide this right to its citizens“.

Even in the beginning, there was a loud uproar against this government monopoly on early education. The proponents of public education system said that people will have the option to home school their children or send them to a private school. Ironically, like all the other liberal and Socialist solutions, these highly limited choices did not help the very people public school system was intended to help, the lowest stratum of society. The reasons were simple. First, they did not have money to pay for private schools and second, with both parents working usually more than one jobs each, there was no way for them to home school the kids. So, while many rich and middle class kids took advantage of these limited choices, kids from lower class families were eternally stuck in public schools.

Even the kids of Obama, who was a very big proponent of public schools and accountability of public officials, ends up sending his kids to very expensive private schools. These incidents are not just limited to Obama. Lots and lots of the government officials who are responsible for public schools at the first place, send their kids to private schools while tax payers who actually pay for the private schooling of the kids of public officials, end up sending their own kids to public schools.

Over time, in the midst of public uproar, some other halfhearted measures were taken in some states and localities, providing little choice to a small number of parents. Things like vouchers, education savings accounts, tax-credit scholarships, individual tax credit / deductions, charter schools and online learning were introduced with very limited availability. For the most part public schools still do not have any significant competition, and for most parent there is not much choice. As usual, the only interests government has in this serious issue, is about redistribution through taxation and indoctrination of kids.

People who are interested in indoctrination of our kids want to make no compromise on public schools being the mainstay, and if possible, the only choice for early education. My friends, this is not the way it should be and the way it was supposed to be. If you really think about it, our lives being ruined by big government, in every possible way, in every aspect of our lives. The enormous amount of direct and indirect taxes that we are paying to big federal, state and local governments are taking away our purchasing power, depriving businesses from revenue, killing jobs, making us more and more dependent on government and we are stuck in a perpetual cycle of government slavery.

If net taxes were about six percent instead of about fifty percent for average Americans, just imagine, how different your life might have been? People would have lots of disposable income, businesses would be thriving, jobs would be abundant, no need for anyone to look towards government for food, education or healthcare. Big government is a trap, impossible to avoid for any citizen. You pay higher taxes to sustain big government. You are left with less money. So, you need help from government. To provide you help, government has to tax even more. This cycle goes on and on until you are where we are now. No jobs for unemployed, lots of people underemployed, stagnant wages, standards of living going down, existing small businesses and start-ups can’t find credit, at any cost. Everything and all resources are getting dumped into big and inefficient government. A government which promises everything. But, cannot deliver anything. Weirdest thing is that after all this the collectivist media and politicians are still turning around their backs from actual problem and blaming free market Capitalism for all this.
Big banks caused great recession. True. But whose regulations provided those banks monopolies and made it very hard for smaller competitors to enter the competition and survive? Who beside the government based enterprises like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was guaranteeing those crazy loans? Who trapped Americans into the dream of home ownership? Wasn’t American dream used to be to own a business? This is the worst part of whole story. The very banks which brought down the whole world’s economy, which were involved in questionable practices, which were saved by trillion of dollars of tax payers’ money, are already bigger than before under so called “new financial reforms”.
My friends, doesn’t matter, if it is finance or education or healthcare. Government doesn’t solve problems. It is the problem. It creates problems. Problems and issues are key to the survival and growth of big media, politicians and government, and status quo they serve. If problems and issues are gone, the very reason for their existence is gone. They create these problems and issues in their struggle for survival, and you think that they are working for us? Governments have always worked for status quo, and they will always work for elite.
