…If you are an artist looking to show off or sell your creations to the members of /r/Lovecraft, or you want to get our members to read your webcomic or visit your Lovecraft-themed blog or web site, or if you are promoting a crowd-funded project through Kickstarter or another site, we would ask that you limit these types of self-promotional submissions to Sundays and that you begin the title of your submissions with the tag [Self-Promotion].

You will need to add the tag manually, enclosed in square brackets as in the example above, so that it looks like this:

[Self-Promotion] Come check out my new Lovecraft-themed webcomic, "Dude, Where’s My Shoggoth?"

We’ll keep this policy in place as long as people are willing to comply with the special submission title format. Submissions that don’t comply with this and our other policies will continue to be deleted.

We understand that because of the International Date Line and differences in time zones that it’s Sunday in some parts of the world when it’s Saturday or Monday in other parts, and we will make allowances for that.

I hope this is a workable solution for both our members with something to promote and our members who don’t want to feel like they are being spammed when they come here.

Thank you, and good luck in your weird endeavors.

Edited to add:

Just to clarify – this isn’t some kind of punishment or stigma or a limit on your ability to participate here – it’s a LICENSE, permission for creative people to engage in behavior that might normally result in the deletion of their posts and possible banning.

This is an actively moderated subreddit, curated if you will, and many of our members appreciate that fact. The prohibition on spam however is a site-wide policy enforced by the owners/admins of reddit.com and not just something we instituted here on /r/Lovecraft to ruin your day. As I noted elsewhere, this new policy is actually bending the rules for your benefit.

If you’re a free spirit who just can’t abide by these policies PLEASE head on over to /r/Cthulhu where your contributions may be more fully appreciated.

Thanks.
