Like any other legal framework, U.S. constitution was written to embody certain basic principles. It has a living spirit which revolves around the whole text and articles within it. If you have read constitution, you must be aware of the fact that basic guiding principles of constitution are liberty and freedom, distribution and division of power and authority, non-interventionism, right to defend, and prevention of tyranny and abuse of authority. Framers were clearly aware of the fact that at times emotions run high, and critical decisions cannot be left on one person. So, house holds the purse, senate performs approval of judicial nominations, courts do interpretation of constitution and executive branch is liable for the execution of laws.
All of the officials in executive branch, legislative branch or judicial branch take the oath to defend, protect and preserve the constitution. This is our supreme law. This is our national bible. Violation of constitution is treason. No one and nothing is above and beyond the constitution. Even the justification for having a president or congress or courts come from constitution. It is the constitutional authority which entitles government to tax us in order to run itself. Without constitution there is no justification for government and even taxation. It is really sad that the people who enjoy authority based on constitution, and tax us to maintain that authority, believe that constitution is irrelevant in some cases namely when it does not fulfil their personal wishes.
Personal opinion does not suspend the law, let alone the supreme law, constitution. If murderer believes that his wish to murder someone provides him immunity from murder related laws, he is certainly not justified in having those kind of believes. This rule is not different for government officials, as well. They too are U.S. citizens and must abide by constitution just like everyone else. At the top of this, they are even more responsible to protect, preserve and defend the constitution, compared to other citizens.
If you look at our history or the history of any major nation, in past and present, most of the disastrous decisions are made under the sense of urgency. Each time, political leaders and media get together and tell us that there is no time to think and waste. We must act, now. We all must come together. Any differing opinion is conveniently labeled as not patriotic or even treason. NDAA, AUMF, NSA, Department of Homeland Security, Bailouts and attack on Iraq, all were done with a false and fabricated sense of urgency.
Create a problem and then wage a war to solve that problem, has become the mode of operation for our government, in a while. Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood, Libyan rebels, Hamas and ISIS all started as our favorites, for various reasons. We provided them money, weapons and training to fight our enemies and “enemies of freedom and Democracy”. Every single one of those turned around and became a problem for us. Our media and politicians do not learn any lessons from this recent history or they simply do not want to learn.
Saddam, Gaddafi, Assad, Mubarak, Arafat and even Soviet Union turn out to be stabilizing factors in highly volatile regions and countries. Removing them only resulted into more chaos and destabilization. Without any exception the outcomes have been worse, so far. Intervention never led to a better situation. In the meantime, we accumulated seventeen trillion dollars in debt, over a trillion in annual budget deficits, twenty billion each year in interest on debt and over hundred trillion in unfunded liabilities. Nobody seems to care about that. Even talking about endless wars and mounting debts is being dubbed as not patriotic or stupid.
We are the bankers telling you that you already have too much debt, you cannot get anymore. How does that make us stupid? Isn’t it that you would be stupid, if you keep accumulating more and more debt? Just like a reckless, bankrupting spender, government wants no ceiling on debt, so that they can keep spending on endless and useless wars and welfare. But, you know that these stories do not end very well. Incredibly sad though, we are not talking about a reckless individual here. We are talking about over 300 million people. World’s richest nation and country, largest economy, being ripped off by reckless politicians and corporate media.
There is little doubt that ISIS is anti-American and anti-west. But, stop for a second, take a deep breath and think. They are involved in a serious civil war spanning over at least two countries, Iraq and Syria. Others like Iran, Hezbollah, Saudi Arabia and turkey have lot at stake. How in the world is it even possible for ISIS to think about attacking U.S.? They are in their own struggle for survival. If we let Middle Easterners fight their civil wars, nobody knows what will be the outcome? Who will survive and with how much strength? What and who will they need to continue?
One more time, we are trying to go there purely on speculations. Speculation that do not have much evidence and reasons backing those up. The cost could be enormous. It could very well mean a decade or two more of wars, thousands of soldiers dying, tens of thousands of military families torn apart, hundreds of thousands injured, physically and psychologically, trillions more in debt and even cropping up of more terrorist groups. Is there anyone talking about this price? Are we really ready to take this on or can we even afford it? Emotions may be running high and we want to punish all haters.
But, you hardly ever think wise when emotions are driving your thinking. Be wise. Don’t be stupid like our enemies. Wars, conflicts, bloodshed, hate, spending and loss is not the way we want to live. We are better than this. We want to live free, and prosper. Let’s change the notion. Let’s tell the world, we have nothing to do with civil wars going on in other parts of world. It is none of our business. You guys decide yourselves. Call us when you need trading partners.
