This lead was originally called the distance throw, but it had to be adjusted when the long-distance pitcher, Alan Partridge, convinced me that his lead was much greater. His lead is more like the shape of the Arseley bomb and is widely used today. The old Zip Lead disappeared from the scene for a few years, until I started fishing with Frank Warwick. He still thought the old Zip Lead shape was very good and he asked if we wouldn’t do a little more for him. That was no problem. It didn’t take long before the phone turned red.
