In the winter semester 2013/14, the Turkish-German University (TDU) in Istanbul welcomes its first students in three undergraduate and two master’s degrees. Offered are three undergraduate programs in three faculties of the TDU in the subjects of technology Mechatronic Systems (Engineering Faculty), Law (Faculty of Law) and Business Administration (Economic and Management Sciences) and two Masters Degrees in Social Sciences Institute in the "Intercultural Management" and "European and International Affairs". The implementation of the programs carried out in cooperation with the Free University of Berlin, Berlin University of Technology and the Universities of Cologne, Mรผnster and Passau. Since the winter semester 2011/12, together with the Technical University of Dortmund offers the TDU to a Master of Science in Manufacturing Technology (MMT) in Germany.

The TDU is a Turkish state university. In the medium term there will be 5,000 students in five faculties. The Universities of Heidelberg and Potsdam contribute in building the two other faculties, a scientific as well as a cultural and social science faculty as partners. "Through the establishment of a Turkish-German University in a significant gap in the Turkish university system closes," said Halil Akkanat, Rector of the TDU.

The German and Turkish high school teachers teach in German and Turkish languages, where necessary in English. For the students, language courses and summer schools are available in Germany. All courses have been developed in close partnership with the German universities of the TDU. On the German side the academic responsibility is supported by a consortium of 29 German universities. The former President of the German Parliament, Rita Sรผssmuth emphasized as president of the consortium: "My commitment to this university is both scientific and policy Turkish and German We need each other looking at science and society have in common…" The shops of the consortium will the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
