Classified ads has been a great source of reaching the target audience for commercial, political, social, economic and community needs, for a long time. It is a cheap and targeted method of advertising in which your target audience themselves come searching for you, instead of you searching for them. This is an earlier form of search engines, being applicable to both older and newer media. Classified ads are popular among message senders, businesses and activists, as an effective methods of reaching target audience because they are cheap and well targeted and they are popular in message receivers, consumers, businesses and general public, because they are simple, easy to search and specific. Classified ads are also a great source of direct and indirect advertising revenue for media, because businesses and other message senders like to advertise on classified ads pages, since these pages are considered highly targeted and cost effective. Classified ads are generally considered as advertisements that are free of excessive commercialization. People can easily find and get exactly what they are looking for, usually at a price that is free of profiteering and rip off. These are easy to understand and follow, too, since most classified ads have a specific format and style. These are usually straight forward and free of exaggerations and deceiving slurs. Advertising on classified ad pages is extremely targeted because, for example, a person reading classified ads for used cars, must be person looking for or in need of a used car and a good used car ad on that page is very likely to draw his attention and interest. Classified ads also have a great potential to accommodate the material, goods and services, that are hard to be accommodated on any other part of a published medium. These are very easy to be categorized and sub-categorized, which makes it very easy for ad placement by advertisers and very easy to find a particular ad, for target audience. Classified ads are also a great source of traffic, subscribers and readers for media.  While there are so many advantages of classified advertising, there are some disadvantages attached, too. Classified advertisers are generally considered ‘small’, non-commercial and even non-professional. Advertisements on these pages, that are in non-classified, regular format are exempt from this. But, this type of advertising, even on classified pages, may be expensive. While these are very good for activism, goods and services offered on these pages are generally considered cheap, second degree and may even be unreliable. General impression is that they are generally not backed by warranties, since a lot of these may be from individual, non-professional and non-commercial sellers. Many of these sales may not even be covered by local trade, commercial and business laws, in case of a problem. General impression is that the goods and services offered in classified ads are sold on as they are and where they are bases. There is no quality and condition guarantee and all verifications must be done by buyer / buyers themselves, if possible. Many of the sellers may not even have an effective return policy or they may not accept returns, at all. All sales may be final. Big buck spenders, quality and reliability seekers and new goods and services buyers may not even bother to look at classified ads.  Therefore, sellers have to rely on very limited margins and profits, if applicable. Many of classified ads users are bargain hunters. They are usually not looking for new, latest and high end stuff. They are usually looking for used, resell and cheap stuff. So, if you are selling high end, new, high quality and high end stuff, classified ads may not be the place for you.  Regardless of all these pros and cons, classified ads are a very effective connection and medium between sellers and buyers, depending upon the nature of your products and services. Some types of services are exclusively offered and sought in classified ads, for cost, and legal reasons, as well. Sex related services are an example.  Many start- ups and small businesses, start their advertising from classified ad campaigns, regardless of what they are offering, because classified ads suit their small and limited advertising budgets. As business grows, they move on to more expensive, regular, more attractive, more prominent and widely target able forms of advertising, like search engines, newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, etc. Some may keep classified advertising as part of their over all advertising budgets and some may totally gave them up, later on.  So, if you are an individual advertiser, a home business or a small business, which is just taking off or looking to reach for more customers in a very cost effective manner, then classified advertising is the way to go, for you. It could be your old car, your house for sell, condo for rent, piece of junk in your garage or even if you just need a date, classified ads are very likely to work for you.  If you are innovative and know how to, running a classified advertising business could be very profitable for you. Craig list and modern forms classified advertising, EBay, Amazon.com and dating sites are great examples. Until Internet arrived, classified advertising was considered only an additional source of revenue for media. Who knew some day, highly creative and innovative entrepreneurs will become billionaires, just based on the innovations done in classified advertising. Newer forms of classified advertising have increased the scope, reliability and reach of classified advertising. On these newer sites, even the big businesses and corporations are advertising all kind of products and services, including new and high end ones. People are bidding on and buying even the most expensive stuff from these sites. Additional factors responsible for their popularity are easy and free access, highly user friendly interfaces and easy search. While, every once in while, traditional media like TV publishes a horror story regarding these sites, the popularity of these sires is seemingly unaffected. Rather, they keep getting more and more popular. As the people are becoming more and more comfortable with charging online and financial companies realizing this opportunity by providing more and more guarantees for online transactions, online classified ads are bound to get extremely popular with the passage of time.
